Here's the Ebay link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....me=WDVW Thanks. It looks like the RLPL label on the insole, but the "Polo" imprint on the bottom is more like the regular Ralph Lauren shoes made by Crockett & Jones. The shoes is a model I've never seen before....

Yes, I believe they are Edward Green's handiwork. It's a variation on EG's "Montpellier" style (with added toecap and brouging).

Alas, not my size; I could get both feet into one shoe.

Interestingly, these Poulsen Skone shoes appear to be positively identical to the Ralph Lauren's in this EBay auction. I wonder who's copying whose design? http://www.newandlingwood.com/iashop...iewprod&ID=137 Or, perhaps did P-S make shoes for Ralph Lauren at some point in the past (if anyone knows)?

My understanding is that Paulsen Skone doesn't make for Paulsen Skone. They're likely EG made and labeled Skone. My conjecture--I don't know anything. [IMG]

All the Purple Label shoes I've seen with that nail-pattern on the heel have been made by Crockett & Jones. So that is my guess, although I cannot say for sure...

    A Harris,

I agree with you re: the nail pattern looking like C&J. I thought the bottom of the shoe looked more like C&J (or something other than EG anyway) with the "Polo" designation and with the nail pattern in the heel that didn't look like standard EG, not to mention the lack of black polish on the middle part of the sole.

It's quite confusing with various shoemakers making shoes for their own label and for other labels during varying periods of time.

I am still intrigued by the spitting image similarity of these shoes to the Poulsen Skone's though.

    Did you buy these?

I think they are Greens, as the inside writing has the "89," which would seem to me to be the Green last number which they use for the RLPL's. I think the shoes have been resoled; certainly at a minimum I think they've had new heels put on. The heels that I've seen from Green and C&J seem to have a straight rubber insert, or are all-leather with brass tacks, or have the common rubber quarter which is cut in with a dovetail.

Actually, those are likely the original soles and heels. I've had several new pairs that were identical.

Oops, I was looking at the wrong e-bay auction. This is the one I was thinking of: Polo e-bay shoes

    Shoefan and A. Harris,

Thanks for the insights. Very interesting about that suede pair Mr. Harris. I wonder what the retail is on those, as that might shed some light on the maker. I suppose it's possible some RLPL dress shoes are made by EG and some by other makers. C&J perhaps. I recall seeing someone on EBay selling a pair of RLPL's that were supposedly made in Italy (they were a little more casual though).

I guess I need to refine my favorite searches on EBay as my regular searches didn't pick up either of those two auctions you identified.
