Is this normal for new shell cordovans

Correct. I just took a look at the insert that came with mine, and although mine actually are #8 shells, I imagine the insert is the same.

the lightening is called pull up. it is desirable. a feature not a bug.

do not put any product on your shell. wear fifteen times at least.

get clean horsehair brush and buff the hell out of them.

I have some each of brown, burgandy and black cordovan shoes. I noticed that the lightening looks nice on the brown and burgandy b/c of the contrast. However, it makes black cordovan look cheap? Has anyone else noticed this w/ black cordovan shoes? I tried putting on extra wax over the creases but still get the same effect.
