I don't see what would be wrong with it, unless you live in Minnesota or something where it is VERY cold. IN that case, just put a coat on over it. But, given that interior temperatures vary, having a l/s tee under a s/s polo can be a good way of staying comfortable. I can't stand it if it is very cold outside and I put on a heavy sweater only to go inside somewhere where the heat is on high and I bake. Also, you are 23, so you'll be fine. It's one of those sort of "trendy" looks, but it's fine and infinitely better than the ubiquitous hoody under a blazer (eek)!

Ok so I'm the only person who still likes the hoodie under a blazer/coat thing?

Nah, I still like it. You just have to do it well and pay attention to the fabrics. I think a lot of the reaction against it is just that people think it's played because they've been seeing it for a few years now.

I don't do it very often any more, though, FWIW.

Personally, I never liked the look. When it first became "in" it was too "thrift store" for me, which I think was the appeal to those who adopted it. Now, it's kind of played, IMO, and a bit cliche. That's not to say there aren't ways to pull it off that still work for some people, in some circumstances. The one circumstance in which I think it works is that sort of "New England preppy" look, with old black or brown oxford shoes, scuffed yet still sort of shiny, vintage, looser-fitting jeans, and oxford shirt underneath, a college-ish hoodie and then an old tweed or cord blazer on top. Not a look for me, but I think that can work.

Obviously not if it is ubiquitous. But I don't see anything wrong with it myself as long as it doesn't become one's everyday standard.

On some guys, it looks good (unfortunately not on me). Originally, it was a sort of neat idea of high/low, using a tailored garment with something relaxed. And, initially, it seemed like I always saw it with vintage, relaxed jackets and such on people who could pull off that look (I have a friend who gets all his clothes from vintage/thrift shops and makes it look great). It's sort of like that ONE guy back in 1984 who could wear his hat backwards and not look stupid.

But, I remember seeing a GQ last year where they stuck a $350 hoody under a $2200 Jil Sander suit jacket. At that point, I thought, okay, it's gone too far.

While I agree on this point, don't forget that blue jeans were supposed to be a working man's garment, and should be bought at the dry goods store, as opposed to $150-500 at the places some of us shop.

Good point. I think it just reinforces that we've all gone crazy (

The hoodie jacket thing is tricky, because you run a serious risk of looking like the michelin man if the hoodie is too bulky. I'd say that unless it's a bespoke jacket, wearing $2500 on your torso is ridiculous no matter who made the garments.

A t-shirt or polo over a thermal/ long sleeve is a great way to layer and stay versatile, who gives a **** what it looks like.

I'm wearing a black polo over a greenish long sleeve thermal right now. I don't really like having my arms exposed unless it's summer and really warm outside so I live in thermals in the fall/winter/spring.

As for the blazer/hoodie thing, I used to hate it but I've started doing it a lot recently. It's too cold for just a blazer where I live and it rains a lot so it's really practical to wear provided it's not pouring rain. I only tend to do it with my hoodies from American Apparel because they are cut slim enough and fit well under a blazer.

Isn't the more significant part of the hoodie to keep your head warm/dry if it's cold/snowing?
