Is this a woman's coat?

I was Goodwilling some stuff and found a coat in the back of my closet that I have zero idea as to where it came from.

The reason I ask if it's a woman's is that the buttons are on the opposite side (left side). However, it's a wool topcoat (Peacoat? It stops at the knees).

It's marked 22W which was weird. It wears like a 44, and I'm normally a 42 suit size.

It NEVER gets cold enough here to justify wearing a topcoat, so I don't know if when wearing something like this over a blazer or suit if the buttons are supposed to be reversed. It may get below freezing a week out of the year. Makes me curious where this thing came from and why I have it.

I'd post pics, but it it's just a black plain topcoat.

That's what I was thinking, but it was so out of place and don't know much about over and top coats due to the weather in these here parts.

And I don't remember hoggin' a whale to whom it would belong...

Guess I'll throw it up on eBay or to Goodwill. Thanks.

I thought they buttoned the way they did so you wouldn't catch the hilt of your sword whilst drawing it.

That would be a size M in OP's part of the globe.

I assume the "W" stands either for women or wide.

The coat fit you and you're a 42 regular which means you ain't tall and you ain't fit. You wear the same size as a women that is 22W. Next time you call someone a whale look right at the mirror buddy.

Don't take your self hatred out on me. I said it felt like a coat that would go OVER a suit or blazer. I'm 6ft 175lbs.
