Is this a possible job for a tailor?

Okay, I know I could just walk down and ask the local tailor, but when ever I'm free, the place is closed.
So, I have this 3 button blazer that I got as a gift. (2nd hand from someone who no longer has a need)

I need the whole thing slimmed down a lot... the shoulders are dead on, but I'm floating around in it otherwise. Is it possible to slim down the whole jacket from the chest to the torso?

Also, how about button downs? I can never find a button down that fits slim enough in the body but has the neck and arm length I need.

Thanks

Um, I can't really believe I'm disagreeing with a tailor, but...

Jackets are sized by chest because that's by far the hardest part to alter - in other words, it's usually not worth it. Take a look at the jacket and imagine it being taken in linearly at the seams and darts. Or just post a pic, perhaps in MC.

Similarly, you can add darts to a dress shirt, but unless it already has darts in it, they won't be invisible. (It's a totally reasonable thing to do to a shirt you already own or get for cheap, but I can't agree with the members who buy shirts intending to have them taken in.)

The Jacket can definately be tailored, just make sure that the tailor is a reputable one. My suggestion for a slim fitting button down shirt is Steven Allen, Band of Outsiders, Yoko Devereaux, and this new label we carry Oliver has a slim fit as well, Factory People also carry this line too.

I agree with Jared also, usually you buy a suit for the jacket and alter the pants... but if you get a good tailor i'm sure he could work some magic for you - but magic costs $$$ too. Oliver French Cuff

he did not say the chest was too big. i belive he meant "from" the chest on down. thats what the seams are for.
he could have his shirts made,or...
if the collar and sleeves are right, the sides can be tapered.
i have done many of them for customers, and also for myself.

totally get your shirts made!! That seems to be new movement, at least from what i've seen.. In ATL there's Lui B that does custom shirts, and I remember in Nolita or somewhere about there, there was a new shop that opened just doing custom button up shirts and underwear?!?!

But how much would a custom shirt cost? as oppsoed to buying a shirt and having the sides tapered?
