I was wondering what people at SF thought about using a unique photos of worn in raw denim as display in a boutique. Good or bad poll.

If it is well made and if you want to show of a casual attitude, then it is a fine idea. The fact that the denim is really worn in (by real people) is a great gimmick, though no one will ever know.. unless you put up little notes by the jeans a la:

It's definitely common in the internet world, as seen in the Nudie website's "gallery" and Context's pics of the ALDs. The whole showing off of worn jeans also goes hand-in-hand with the lore surrounding raw denim. I say go for it.

I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that Self Edge keeps a few pairs of worn, raw denim hanging in frames in the store. I think I saw some in the background of the SFxSE party pics.

I think if it fits the look of the store, go for it. It's a lot easier to explain the concept of "raw denim" when you can point to the finished results.

Next question: can I take high-res photos of my own jeans and hang them in my house after the pair has been retired? The crotch of my first pair of raw jeans is finally blown and I feel like there should be some way to commemorate all the time we spent together...

God, that would be awesome when you bring a girl home.

I think its a cool idea in principle, but its one of things that can be done well or done horribly and the line is so fine that 89% of people would eff it up.

This is correct.

This is something I've considered as well. If I were to hang photographs of my jeans, I wouldn't tell people they were mine, just that I liked the shots...

A framed pair of new raws jeans with an identical, well worn, pair next to it would be awesome. I've thought about doing this at my condo actually, but I'd probably catch too much **** from my friends over it. Plus, I'd have to buy a pair of jeans and never wear them....

My girlfriend and I are actually thinking of doing something similar. My plan was to have a pair of worn denim sandwiched between two pieces of custom cut 1/8" glass, and edge off the compression with a 1/2" gauge frame trim.

The only thing that I am concerned with is the weight of the glass panes (and the lack of space for mount holes), there is also a possibility of stress concentration causing fracture from rivets and whatnot.

You could put spacers between the sheets of glass: maybe experiment to figure out how far apart they could be but still keep the jeans in place. Or of course you could use plexiglass instead.

I'd be very interested in seeing how this project turns out.
