These shoes are shell cordovan. Every part of the shoe except for the cap is a smooth texture, while the cap on both shoes seems to be a bit more grainy. Is this normal?

it's not by design. it's just a different piece of leather on the toe with different grain. normal but I would probably ask to see another pair if I were buying in person.

Kind of what I figured... this is from the Internet and I waited a few months for them. What do you think of this 'feature'?

I'm a shoe symmetry freak, if both shoes have the same exact captoe texture, I would be okay with it

Me too, and I think I'm fine with it. Strange that it's on both shoes... as if someone purposely did it.

It's definitely a shell thing. Shell is pretty inconsistent. some spots on my shell shoes have this as well. Renovateur and polishing over time reduces the look of this.

I'm convinced some of the shell I've had has been off a donkey from Blackpool.

You want to see what EG does with the donkeys. It's day and night vs. Alden.

My caps are different from my rest-of-the-boot, too. Perfectly normal; wear with pride!
