Is there a way to PREVENT an ocbd collar from shrinking?

There are a few threads about ways to address a collar that is too tight, but none specifically about ways to prevent a collar from shrinking (as far as I can tell).

I have a new unwashed OCBD. The collar actually fits me perfectly right now, but I expect it will shrink some with washing.

It is the BB Great Gatsby one that is now sold out (I believe).

This thread (http://www.styleforum.net/t/344565/brooks-brothers-gatsby-collection) notes that the collar of this is prone to shrinking a lot.

Anything I can do to prevent that kind of shrinkage?

Thanks

Apart from the obvious (washing cold + gentle), stretch out the neck, collar, cuffs, placket, and sleeves before hang drying. Grip along the seam of the fabric, but not where 2 pieces of fabric meet, or you may bust seams. Don't pull too hard. This will make ironing easier as well.

You made a mistake of buying a brand new shirt, unwashed, with a "perfect" collar.

You should have expected shrinkage and therefore sized accordingly.

Your best bet is to only wash in cold water and line dry, and hope for the best.

Buy a shirt with preshrunk fabric.

All of Kamakura shirts are preshrunk, for example.

Also, always use cold water to wash, and hang dry. Never use a dryer.

That is BLATANTLY not true, both from my personal experience and from asking the Madison store salesperson.

That's what the sales associate told me.

Barba and Borrelli is definitely preshrunk, by the way. As is Mastai Ferretti
