Is the Thumb #1 or #5?

When you guys count on your fingers, do you start or end with the thumb? I think if you start with the thumb, you might be a little strange.

The thumb. Because extending the pinky then the ring finger is difficult. It's easier when the middle finger is extended first, followed by the ring finger, then the pinky which is what one would do if they were counting in the order of thumb, index, middle, ring, pinky.

Since my index finger is the "main finger" I would put the thumb as #0 and index as #1.

Without the thumb, the rest is useless. Thus, thumb is #1.

I usually start counting from the thumb, which I guess, makes me a "little strange". But then again, we all knew that.

I start at the index finger, progress to the pinky (which is number 4 for me) and then jump to the thumb for number 5. Is this unusual? I have always counted that way.
