Is the number of eyelets important in a black laceup?

I'm not sure if I'm using the correct term here, but someone once told me that it would be best to have a pair of black laceup with 4 eyelids. I saw a pair of Ermenegildo Zegna black laceup with 3 eyelids that I liked. I decided not to buy it until I get some opinions on this "issue". Thanks! depends on the design. The design you show, a type of plain toe blucher, usually has 3 or 2

I never new it was an issue and have never bothered to count, as will 99% of people you encounter.

They are nice, If you like them get them. But what is the ISSUE? 4eyelet for what use? Different brands have different lines with different number of eyelets for both derbys and oxfords. 3, 4, 5 and seven eyelet oxfords & wholecuts 1, 2, 3,4 & 5 eyelet derbys. I find 1,2 and 3 eyelet derby more elegant than the 4 or 5 eyelet versions, in my eye they get "heavy" and aquire a country look. For oxfords and wholecuts i prefer odd numbers ... So what do you mean by: "best to have a pair of black laceup with 4 eyelets"

Only the most discerning hosts won't invite you to a party because of how many eyelets your shoes have. With that said, I like odd numbers.

Oh ok. Why do you call this a blucher? Is this the same as an oxford?

no it;s not an oxford.

there are no right and wrong number of eyelets. just buy what you prefer. obviously, 3 eyelets look better than 44 eyelets in the same space.

I prefer prime numbers myself, or powers of two for sneakers.

Even numbers allow you to lace them straight across without crossing underneath at an angle.

Back in the day you'd spend the whole night waiting in line at Studio 54 if your shoes had more than six eyelets. Best to wear slip-ons.

Most of the Oxfords I have seen have odd number of pair eyelets.
Now an even number of pairs can be important for lacing. Some lacing techniques work well only with even number of pairs. That's why.
Now you can always use other lacing techniques if you really like shoes with odd number of pairs.
