Is style getting better or worse?

I don't mean how everyone dresses as an average, but what is considered "well-dressed" or "good looking" in the public's eyes. Looking at the ideals of the last 30 years, it doesn't seem like the 2000s are that bad. Baggy crew-neck t-shirts replaced by collared polos. Giant suit shoulders replaced by better fitting garments in the magazines.

To an objective point of view, of course.

Agreed. People want to dress like they are serious and working hard. It is refreshing to see what a recession can do, unlike the business casual '90s.

I think it's much more polarised; those who err on the more casual side have got much 'scruffier', whilst the rest have smartened up. There seems to be an eradication of the middle ground.
