Is shipping from France outrageously expensive?

I bought a hat on eBay from a French seller for about $30. I just got the invoice, and the shipping is 43,50E! That's like seventy dollars. I recently bought a hat from the UK, and postage was like $15 or $20.

Am I wrong for thinking that that's a bit crazy?

Refuse to pay him. Maybe he wanted the auction to go up more.

You can report that to eBay, 43 Euros would be high even to ship a full suit unless you needed it sent overnight.

For comparison, Bexley Shoes charge the same amount for a pair of shoes to be shipped from France to Australia.

I agree with the above. There seems to be a generous "handling" component to that price.
