I have spent a lot of time thinking about this question, as I wear one or the other almost every day. I think they are versatile in slightly different directions. Both are great with cords/flannels and an odd jacket. Both are great with jeans. I feel a little bit weird going with longwings when I am wearing khakis, but, at least in the United States, I think you can swing them with at least some suits. By contrast, I like the PTB with khakis/chinos, but I think they can look a little informal under anything but the most country of suits. If you are looking for something that might work with both suits and cords I'd go with the longwing; if you are looking for something that will work with your wardrobe from flannels down, I'd pick the PTB. Both are great.

I don't see many shoes in dark burgundy, that is within my budget.

Speaking of which, any recommendation for burgundy shoes in leather sole for <$300?

I like both, and wear both for all types of occasions. However, as of late, I've favored the ptb more.

the LW will look fine with jeans, but the PTB (unlike the LW) will look out of place under a city suit. So the LW is more versatile.

imo, it is a geographical thing. give the op is from the U.S., it would be a draw for me.

in continental europe it is more common to find bluchers in business situations. a plain design is "always" less casual.

imo, you can't go wrong with either, depending on your social demography, one rules out the other in different situations. it's vice versa.

R, I suspect you're thinking of this from the Tradly perspective. But there are plenty of sleek, two-eyelet bluchers that might work with a suit. I don't go for that look, personally, but I think it's as valid as the longwing alternative. Especially these days, when the most common suit shoe is the blucher done up as a black, square-toed brick.
