I watched an episode and the parts with Aziz Ansari are hilarious! Is the show worth following?
not as funny as "whitney" but its still good
Amy Poehler does her best to sabotage her own show but somehow the writers and other actors (especially Chris Pratt) put on a decent show. Sometimes I watch it just to see what Poehler can do to ruin everything yet still everyone else manages to pull through. It's like an unintended meta-layer.
It seems a bit too close to The Office format for me.
Why does that matter?
IMO yes. Quite entertaining.
And yes, Ron Swanson is win.
I watched it this fall before the new season started. Great stuff.
Took someone's advice and skipped season one and just started at season 2 (and then go back and watch S1 if you really want to after catching up to the current airing). I am glad I did--S1 was Amy Poehler succeeding in overpowering the show and by the end of S2 and beginning of S3, they have really got the formula down (and toned down the Amy's vestigal SNL leftovers).
I finally went back and watched S1 a month or two ago. It was ok seeing how they got to where they were, but it is a really short (less than half-length) season so you really don't miss much.
Best character on the show. His philosophies are awe inspiring.
"Whitney" is funny?
Thanks for asking that question; almost thought that I was legit the only person who side-eyed the E! channel comedians, with the exception of Joel McCale (sp?) on The Soup for false advertising. I can't sit through Whitney, Chelsea Lately, or any of the shows on that network really with the exception of Fashion Police bcuz Joan Rivers is wild as fuck. Ironically enough, 2 years ago when I came back from college I and was jobless, I spent an entire day in the summer streaming tv shows, and I stumbled upon Parks and Rec from the NBC website, and it wasn't laugh out loud consistently funny, but it was suitable to make me crack a smile during my deep post-collegiate early twentysomething depression, menaning, now that I am employed and no longer daily weighing the pros and cons of existence through the lens of continual suicidal ideation, the show is pretty awesome because it's so weird. The characters are strange and likeable in a weird way. I loathe Amy Poehler's character b/c I feel like she's not the best and the eccentric personalities of the cast members are more important and make the show, ie Aziz Ansari, the fat black woman (who is hilarious in her stereotyping of a fat black woman who is obsessed with her material things, so understated, so hilarious haha, Aubrey Plaza and her bf in the show, awesome. They're actually hilarious and I wish they had more camera time. Do like the twenty three year olds of the internet and stream the episodes until you fall in love. Wow just realized this was a paragraph. mea culpa
