Is Paris doable in 3 days/3 nights?

Planning to leave DC on a Wed evening and will return Sunday afternoon. That gives my wife and I 3 full days and 3 nights in Paris. Is this enough time or should we do one additional day?

Hard to answer. You can easily fill three days, just as you could easily fill 4 or 5 or 6 and on and on. Especially if you've never been.

If so, and you can manage to take an extra day, do it. Better to see a little more on the first trip, I think. Plus, it sucks to fly all that way for only three days.

The price of the ticket plus the time it takes to get there is making me lean towards taking an extra day. I mean, London I can justify doing in 3 full days (shorter and cheaper flight), but this one would be hard to swallow. Thanks.

Aside from the sights, another benefit is one more day of good eatin'.

I took my mother to paris for 3 days (I have also taken her to prague for 3 days, as well as my wife to Paris for 3 days (a couple of times), prague for 3 days, germany for 3 days (I'm espectially proud of that one - munich, berlin, dusseldorf and koln), rome for 3 days (a couple of times), bangkok for 3 days, and probrably a few other places.

3 days is more than enough time to see a city, if you plan it out the right way.

I would suggest getting the "eyewitness guide" in advance to make your plans, getting resteraunt reservations in advance, and getting a hotel that is centrally situated. I wouldn't plan on seeing everything. but it can still be a great weekend.

I don't know but I've been told that Paris doesn't really wait for the second date to get to know a guy, if you know what I mean. One night should be sufficient, but of course regrets (and Valspar prescriptions) last a lifetime.

Oh, you mean the city. nvm

If it isn't your first time, yes. Paris is also more doable if you plan to skip or spend very little time in places like the Louvre. NYtimes has this 36 hour schedule: http://travel.nytimes.com/2006/12/24...l/24hours.html You may also want to look at sites like flyertalk where people have posted their suggested schedules for a short trip.

Paris is an amazing city. If you are already out there, take the extra day. Although you can "see" a lot of things in 3 days and can do so if planned properly, I like Paris for the experience. I say on a multi-city trip, it warrants at least 4 days, especially if you plan to go shopping. You'll want a day or two when you're strolling and not rushing to get to a museum or any particular place before it closes.

only EVER approach the Eiffel Tower from the Trocadero (metro station with that name too). The entire city was designed to be seen from this exact area - youll thank me for it I promise you:

also do brave the crowds and tourist tat for the view from the top of the Sacre Couer: this is one third the panorama, check out the Eiffel tower for scale. Youll see how Paris is the densest city in the West, despite its lack of skyscrapers:

...although if you do want skyscrapers, there's always the view from the Arc de Triomphe: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2406/...e2e8f3.jpg?v=0 ...towards the arc de la Defense:

, or from the good ol Eiffel Tower itself: http://www.fromparis.com/modules/ima...mber=000083_02 Enjoy the architecture, it will be rewarding if you guys read up on the design of the city (a quick version here: http://www.wirednewyork.com/forum/sh...?t=4050&page=3 ) Pick a direction and get lost, definitely a must-do in this city....

And of course enjoy the multicultural ambiance that is the modern city (ignore the snotty rude shop staff, always approach a French person speaking French otherwise merde alors! French was very much the lingua franca of the world, hence the name, but has embarrassingly given way to English both at home and abroad. Always ask first, excusez-moi monsieur /madame, parlez vous anglais?)

Be prepared to be tired and alot of walking and circumnavigating the complex metro, but also take time out. If you ever see a park visit it. If you see a square, just hang round it and DO NOTHING.

I heartily reccommend the Canal St Martin district

and you (and the kids) will love the Parc du Buttes Chaumonts, alittle way out in a drab suburb, but well, well worth the trek, like no park youll ever see again (it was built out of a quarry). Mini mountains, lakes, caves, waterfalls and walkways built in the Nineteenth Century:

Well, NYC is close to DC, so going over and over is cheap and easy. A few weekends a year is nothing and adds up.

Besides, it all depends what you plan on doing in Paris (or NYC). Last time I went to Paris, my gf and I spent most of our time in our room venturing out only for brief strolls to find some good food. In our case, 3-4 days was doable.

You've probably been in DC for a while and haven't seen all there is to be seen yet. I know I haven't.

If you want to be a tourist, I think you need at least a week.

Take an extra day.....the jet lag alone wipes out the first days consciousness.

Thanks everyone. It will be my first time, but my wife has been there before. I figured the first day will be a waste anyway when we go down for the all-important jetlag recovery nap.

I feel I'd get tired of banging Paris after about 5 min.
