Random question which curiosity spurs after reading your post above. What is the benefit of NOT buying fabrics directly from the manufacturer?

For Zegna/Piana, strictly cost. You can't make $250 pants sourcing fabric directly from Piana. But Jobbers have evolved to effectively becoming what the grey market dealers are in the watch industry. Piana/Zegna or some designer that buys direct fro them can look to "quietly" unload 50-100 meters of discounted fabric and that is where i come in. For the English mills, I am buying direct from some, using an SF member to buy direct from a few other mills..

That's good news, patiently waiting to purchase some pants and ties. Hopefully the classic fit pants with pleats will be offered..

Great news. Glad to hear things are moving right along. I've held off buying trousers waiting for the first round of the single pleat slightly fuller cut. If they don't materialize (sorry) I'll have to size up to get my gonads in and out out.

Good luck with the site launch. I'll be following closely and buying shortly.

Be careful when you assume.

^ I agree with you totally, but curious why you would say that? His feedback clearly shows multiple purchases of fabrics.

I am going to take credit for hooking Ed up with a few fabric jobbers.

HartMarx dumped over 400,000 yards of woolens into the off price market.
there are great deals to be had. in that 400,000 was plenty of stuff from china, mexico and south america.
but also plenty of italian fabrics as well from loro piana as well as barbaris, zegna, etc.
fabric prices are 25% of buying the regular way.
also easier to buy 30 yards of something interesting with out making a huge financial mistake.

i have another contact who buys a big chunk of the zegna/gucci leftovers. Ed has not been up there yet. I get great deals on shirting from them. interesting fabrics. most in stock programs are very basic.

the shirt Ed is working on looks great and is different then what is out there. the only credit i take on that one, is helping with fabric.

I give Ed a lot of credit. it is not easy to launch a line. it is also very expensive untill sales come in.
recently I helped some guys with a casual shirt line. after giving up their day jobs almost a year ago, they are both looking for work again.

GO Ed!!!

I think this is a great idea, avoid the minefield of MTM shirts/pants but offer MTO ties with customisable width and length; I would certainly then be able to buy some, as standard length ties are always too long and usually too wide for me.

^ Same for me so I suspect not an uncommon issue.

Panta wouldn't necessarily have to offer a fully customizable service like Hober, but a few workable lengths/widths would be helpful, say like Drakes standard widths of 3.25" or 3.5" with proportional length.

Glad we didn't lose you, Ed.

Yeah, if it's not too much trouble, 2 sizes of ties would be great and not as much of a pain as custom sizing.

Maybe 9cm and 8cm (with a slightly shorter length than normal :)
