Is it worth getting this thrift store find altered?

I found a Brooks Brothers sport coat at the local Goodwill and was curious of whether or not it could be altered/if I should get it altered. It's a 40L and I am a 39R. Can it be altered down to my size? I am unsure of the name of the jacket, but it's a model number 3315-2. I plan on wearing it with jeans more than anything and maybe occasionally dressing it up. Just curious on your all's thoughts and opinions on whether it's worth spending the money it will take to alter it. Here are some pics.

Could be expensive and never really work out. The shoulders are probably far too wide requiring re-cutting. The arms will be too long, which isn't a problem, but the back and front will be too. If you have that shortened the pockets will be too close to the bottom of the coat. You'll also need the chest taken in and perhaps the collar reset. Basically you can look like a 16 year old in your father's coat or you can get something that fits.

Looks like it's an orphaned suit jacket. Barely worth what you paid for it at a thrift store (if that).

Shortening sleeves or pant legs is an inexpensive alteration cost,
but all around alterations can very quickly become burdensome on your wallet.
In future, it is better for you to exercize discipline and buy only what fits you in the first place.
If you can get a refund or credit note for this jacket then do it.
Don't waste money on this item.

Honestly the best course of action is to take it to your local tailor and ask him/her how much the alterations would cost. Then you can determine if it's worth it.

It was $4. I'm not that worried about it. I mainly bought it because of the name, and because it almost fits. I know better for next time.

The only reason I didn't think it was a suit jacket is because it is really thick wool. Not smooth in the least.
