Is it really true that you can't mix black with navy?

I bought this new Ralph Lauren spring jacket, but I really wanted it in black (it only comes in navy). my issue with navy is itll look odd with my black jeans or whenever I wear black pants for work. Is it really true that you can't mix navy with black? help please!!!

No, it's not true. What's more important is the tone of the navy and the black. If they both have similar undertones (some navies are more blue/black, for example, and some blacks have some blue in them), then they match well.

Besides, some of the coolest tuxedos are midnight blue with black grosgrain lapels, so...
