ok guys...so i acquired a couple of sports jackets that are about an inch or so shorter than i usually wear them...my other jackets are 30-31" and these measure about 29.5" from bottom of collar to bottom of jacket.

so here's the question - is it possible to let out the bottom hem of the jacket so that the whole thing is longer by 0.5 - 1"? i tried a search but no luck....

i'm perfectly fine if the answer is "no" or "it's not worth it"....i just got curious and my OCD wont let me rest now

I'm hicjaking this thread for a related question.

I recently has a MTM suit made by Samuelsohn. I was already reluctant to go as short as the young customer service rep was suggesting as I don't like the trendy short jackets that you see these days but decided to try it out none the less.

I usually like a 29-29 1/4 BOC length but I agreed to 28 3/4 for this one.

The jacket came out 28 1/4 in length.... 1/2 inch shorter then what was agreed. It obviously looked ridiculously short on me. The sales rep agreed and we had the jacket sent back.

Samuelsohn came back saying they'll just lengthen the same jacket to 28 3/4.

Should I be worried?

The store just received the jacket so what should I be expecting and what should I do if the jacket looks off balance? I assume the buttoning point will be a bit too high and the front will be much too open....but I'm just speculating.

Please also note that this is my first MTM suit ever...

Depending on the inlays, it might be possible to let-out the hem on the sides and back, but not in the front.

In the front you have the curve (where the vertical edge changes into the horizontal hem). Within that curve, there is nothing that can be let-out. All the excess material has to be cut very narrowly, to reduce bulk and enable a smoth curve.

Once you have passed that curve, it might be possible to let-down the hem by a little. - Talk to your tailor.

Leave it. Either sell the jackets or keep them accepting you will be wearing short jackets. An inch to inch and half is not so bad, I have seen some so called stars wearing jackets that end at the belt line.
