Do men ever wear satin jackets or is that something best left to women? (as in sport jackets or blazers)

IMHO - I would leave that to women. Men in satin jackets remind me of the roadies at old rock and roll concert tours.

I agree - unless you're gonna get "Pin Pals" embroidered on the back, I'd leave them alone.

Lest we forget, the satin jacket is also a staple of the early 80's stand up comedian. They work well with rainbow suspenders and contrast nicely with brick walls.

Also, if your jokes stink, you can bedazzle the audience with "shiny stuff."

Well, I disagree. I don't have a problem with satin. But the cut matters a lot if you want to pull it off. You don't want to have anything that looks like the satin diner jackets from the 50's. There's a picture of a Dior Homme satin suit in GQ this month, and it looks really sharp.

I don't mean to hijack the thread, but what do folks think about satin neckties? I like solid neckties, and have seen a few solid satin ones in catalogues (Charles Tyrwhitt etc), but have resisted.

According to my closet, neckties are better left to silk. I suppose it would vary about a satin necktie.

As for men's jackets, I'd say stay away from satin.

Unless you are a jockey on race day, I would stay away from satin.

I'd wear it, but only if at least one other item of my attire - suit, shirt, pocket square - was patterned: preferably, all would be.
