Is it just silly?

This is (not mine) a Hickey Freeman 3-button, circa 1961. Do you find the lapels to be so small that they look foolish? Opinions appreciated.

They are small. But they may look a little wider and longer if the top button was not fastened and the lapels rolled naturally to the second button?

I don't that width looks inherently foolish. I do, however, think they work best on a slim-cut suit on a slender fellow. They just need to be in proportion.

The lapels look odd because the suit is too small for the model. Also, the shirt collar is too wide a spread for the lapels.

Ditto. They would look a little bigger, and it wouldn't be such a bother. Also, a pocket square would help.

Depends. On a skinny guy, I like thn lapels, but long thin ones. I think it especially nice on a young guy.

Having a small frame (36), and with the suit being quite small on the model (it's a slim 38), I may be able to make it work.

I like it. Lapel width is just right. One thing I'd do is taper the trousers a bit because it looks wide to be worn with no break, as the model is wearing. The suit doesnt look too small for the model, but the sleeves could be lengthened ½ inch. Agree the shirt collar isnt the best choice for the suit.

I like the narrow lapels, and it looks much better with the lapel rolled to the second button (will look even better with a steaming to restore the proper roll).

To do it right, you need vintage shirt, tie, shoes, and accessories.

The location of the pocket on the shirt is the reason why I always wear pocket-less shirts.

I love suits with a gradual three rolled to two stance. It's what I'm getting for my next.

I like the suit and i think with a few minor adjustments it could look very cool. Id lengthen the sleeve by at least an inch and look for a shirt with a collar in keeping with the scale of the lapels. The shirt in the pic is too big for the model - it sags at the neck - and is cut a bit loose for the body too - what it needs is the narrower body that would come with one of those ralph shirts. Ralph Lauren black label does smaller 60's style collar shirts that would fit well with the jackets scale. id hazard that the middle button on the jacket is sitting a little north of the navel - which is ok in a sixties suit but can exaggerate the shrunken look
I think the pants are about a 1 inch too short too although if you shortened them by three inches instead its total tom browne!
