And last but not least censorship, omitting and distorting of the information that comes from overseas. The extend and sophistication of political propaganda in this country makes Communist propaganda of Cold War era look like child-play.
it is annoying when they show a foreign leader considered to be an enemy of the u.s. on television. they will show him making a speech but they don't translate what he is saying. and it's annoying that americans don't complain about this. saddam hussein would give a speech for an hour, they would show him on tv for 10 seconds and not even translate his words. if you are going to a attack a country and kill thousands of civilians because of their evil dictator, would it not make sense to show a little bit more of his speeches, say 5 or 10 minutes, and put subtitles so we know what he is saying?

the irony is the the u.s. likely does have the best press, but that's not saying much for journalism.

The only people I find to be really annoying in America are the foreigners.

I love foreigners who will talk your head off about boorish Americans who visit their country and have no respect for or intent to learn and follow its culture and social customs, and then go out to a bar and leave no tip on a $100 tab because, "hey, that's a silly American custom that I don't agree with or practice in my country, so why should I have to follow it?"

Also amusing were the many international students who would use every class discussion as a chance to bitch about how bad America was and how superior things in their country were, which, I'm sure, was exactly the reason why they went to so much trouble to leave their country and move all the way to the U.S. to pursue their education when they could have, for much less trouble, done it at home.

Anyway, I have nothing against foreigners (or Americans), just the stupid, disrespectful, and/or hypocritical ones.

I have to agree. After 4 years at a college where probably 25% of the kids were international or close to it, I came out of the experience a lot less open-minded than when I entered. A disproportionate number of the people who rubbed me the wrong way were from outside the USA. Some very arrogant attitudes and boorish manners among the international crews, be they Latin/Asian/Indian/Euro. Maybe they're not the noisiest bunch, but Im constantly amazed at how quick they are to bash the USA in my presence. I'd like to see some of them down to some South Philly bars and see if they feel comfortable copping that attitude... Utter contempt for the black staff of my school and restaurant wait-staffs is also prevalent.

Just my anecdotal (and probably biased) opinion.

I don't know, I studied biology in college and a huge amount of my fellow students were foreign or 1st generation immigrants and most of them were pretty proamerican. I found that it was the liberal arts people that were more critical of america, but then few of them were foreign(except for the business school).

It sure seems that foreigners feel an entitlement to "rights" while here, yet are quick to share their contempt for America.

Reminds me of the case currently happening in Irvine, where some MiddleEastern student at UCI was denied entry into a club for wearing a turban (club has explicit "No hat/headwear" rule that applies to everyone) and he's taking this to court for having his religious rights violated (he's a sikh and can't take off his turban)

I guess he was embracing the notion that "a towel is not a hat"

Go to some other bar you fucking dumbfuck piece of shit.

of course, they're all neo-hippy socialists. I think you have to pass a "how much do you hate America" test along with SATs to get into a liberal arts program.

i'll side with the sikh on this. if i owned a club with a no hats rule, i would not enforce it if the headgear had some cultural/religious significance. if a jew wanted to enter and keep his yamukah (sp?) on, so be it. the purpose of the rule was probably to dissuade a hip-hop or amjack atmosphere anyway.

I like firm enforcement. otherwise it opens up a pandora's box of jackasses being stupid with wondering why some brownie over there can wear his turban and I can't wear my Dodgers cap.

What I don't agree with is taking this nonsense to court. Personally I think that private businesses SHOULD be able to discriminate, to their detriment if it pisses enough people off but their choice to do so.

Is this the story? I'd like to add that if he's Sikh, he's not Middle Eastern.

    http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/n...mi9turban.html

I'm not sure if Sikhs are allowed to consume alcohol, but I'm pretty sure that there are a lot of bars that would prefer to not let in Arabs, Persians, Sihks, etc. assuming that they will not be drinking, thus the bar will not be making any money off them. This, while hard to prove, is racism.

If the bar has a strict policy regarding no headwear, he is an idiot to file a law suit. If he can come up with evidence that the bar has let in patrons wearing hats or other headwear though, he's got a case as the bouncer who denied him entry was clearly denying him on the basis of his race.

In Canada, there was a lot of debate in the previous years regarding Sikhs and their requirement to carry a dirk on them. This has come up with regards to carrying them to the classroom, and also on trains.

This used to be the case. Some would argue it didn't work out too well, either.

yea that's the story. Sikhs arent middle eastern? huh, didnt know that. My brain has very limited categories for ethnics, so all guys that look like him are filed under "middle eastern"
