Is it cool to have a monogram embroidered on a blazer?

I have a navy blazer with all the traditional detailings (i.e. brass buttons) and I was wondering if it's acceptable to have a single-letter monogram embroidered onto the chest area where a more traditional crest would go.

What are everyone's thoughts on this?

The finished result, I think, would make the blazer look more preppy, more collegiate . . . .

Nothing I'd do, that's for sure. I am another one who is not big on monograms, period. I'm not very keen on blazer badges either. Crests and whatnot tend to limit what colors you can match with your blazer.

I'm thinking of having the oversized monogram done in white . . . .

Thoughts/inputs?

No. Don't do it, Thurston.

I already have a white monogram placed on the chest area on a black blazer and I had the buttons changed to white buttons . . . so I was thinking about having the monogram done for the navy blazer as well . . . obviously, no one here seems to agree that's a good idea . . . my sole reason for doing this (on the black blazer) was to give it a very distinct preppy look . . . . we've all seen the ads out there in which dude's sporting a monogram on his jacket's breast area . . . .

Most people here (at least in MC) err on the side of staying within certain conventions. They likely wouldn't wear something like that, and prob wont recommned you do.

95% of the time that I see something like this (and living in London I see a lot of "creative" twists), it looks more douche than stylish. That said, there are that 5% that have the attitude to pull it off when combined with the rest of the package, and create a look that surpasses most of what you see here. If that's you, then by all means do it.

But if that's you, you prob don't need to ask us if you should do it.

Is there an Ask Andy About Clothes crest?

That could be spiffy.

i thought you were asking our opinions, not trying to convince us of your idea. If you really want to, then none of us here are going to stop you.

I think you might consider a school crest or something that makes more sense then a monogram.

On more than one count.

Sorry.
