Is it appropriate to try on high-end clothes without any intentions in buying them?

Recently I've started educating myself about men's style and fashion. While in the past I was very anxious about visiting high-end brand shops like Prada or Gucci, nowadays I feel rather comfortable having a browse there. However, I've not so sure about trying on the items as I've no intentions in buying them. I see it as a little research product, where I can learn about how high quality goods feel and fit, thus I could use such knowledge when looking for the cheaper alternatives. I'm wondering what your thoughts on this?

Of course it's OK! Unless they display notices that state otherwise. In fact a little challenge could be, see how far you can go with trying on as many items as you can before they suss you out, when they might kick you out the store and ban you....LOL.

These are very well known brands and serve as an example. On the other hand, to which brands would you recommend to pay attention to as from your reply I can feel you don't have too much liking for neither Prada nor Gucci. I'm looking for the good quality/price ratio.
