i am llikely to wear them wen i dress up a bit. however, i would also like to know if it is appropriate to wear them with t shirts. and i mean plain solid t shirts ONLY, w/o jackets/blazers/sweater. is it too formal? i wud love to c pics if anybody has done it and has done it rite.

ok so the general consensus is not to wear dress shoe with t shirts? but what about a pair of chelsea (which is regarded here as both office and casual)

This would be in poor form. T-shirts were originally underwear and haven't come that far since then.

I wouldn't. Get some white 'dress' shirts, or OCBDs

It would be a bit too incongruent for me, but I've seen worse.

I tried to do this sort of thing the other day, but I couldn't do it. Just have some more casual button-up shirts. If you get them tailored right you can look casual but swish, ramped up way past whatever your buds are wearing.

I do it and am the gold standard of acceptability so a resounding yes.

Note: I wear sportscoats though

Even wearing them with polo shirts is quite risky, imo.

I wouldn't do it with monk straps, but I do wear polos and brogues with a sport coat. I would be feel uncomfortable without the sport coat. Then again, I feel uncomfortable without a sport coat pretty much all the time.

Go with suede or a matte finish, also kindof depents on the t-shirt. If it looks good, or a bit more dressy like a polo and you've got khakies or nicer jeans, I think it could work.

T-shirts only belong in the gym.

I've been known to wear slim wingtips with skinny denims and a t-shirt. As have many other SW&D posters (sidneylo does this especially well) and all the hipster kids.

Monstraps+t-shirt=does not compute, unless this is supposed to be some kind of next-level irony...

I think a nice loafer looks alright with a t-shirt and some nice shorts, it might be tough to pull off with pants though. I would stick to boat shoes/driving shoes/moccasins - a step up from a running shoe and a step down from a dress shoe.

I'd rather wear sneakers with t-shirts than dress shoes with t-shirts. And I love dress shoes. Perhaps it is because I love dress shoes that I refuse to insult them with such a pairing. One should not cast pearls to swine.
