Is honesty always the best policy on SF?

Let's say someone on StyleForum posts a picture of an outfit or of a significant other that you find unappealing. Do you post your honest reaction or hold your tongue unless you have something positive to say?

FWIW, I'm brutally honest whenever a poster asks for advice/comments/impressions.
(i.e., 'What do you guys think of my new purple zoot suit/transvestite boyfriend/Cowboys tattoo on my rectum?')
In most other instances I stick to the 'hold your tongue unless you have something positive to say' mantra.

If it's an outfit and it's in WAYWT, it's fair game because that's the point of the thread. If it's a significant other and it's in WAYWT as part of the picture of their outfit then you should really only speak up if it's positive--they weren't explicitly looking for comments about her. If you're ballsy enough to post pictures of your SO/some chick you've nailed unsolicited in any thread you've concocted some excuse to do so in on the internet for no other reason than the fact that you're looking for an e-high five, you deserve whatever harsh criticism you get. You're pretty much asking for it at that point.

I give honest opinions when talking about wardrobe. That's why we're here. To learn what works and what doesn't. I like the honesty here. On other clothing related fora, people will look like crap (awful fit, awful color schemes, etc.) and other posters will claim they look superb. If one should disagree, he is branded as ungentlemanly. Strange.

I hold my tongue unless the poster specifically asks for unedited critiques. With WAYWT, I might make a suggestion phrased in a positive fashion, but I try not to rip into someone unsolicited. My tastes are not your tastes, and all that.

People shouldn't post photos of unwilling participants (i.e. they don't know they will be on the internet) they are with without their permission. I tend to keep my mouth shut about them.

First, this isn't about WAYWT. Everyone knows it. However, in a WAYWT thread if there was a SO i thought was ugly in the picture, I wouldn't say anything but I would give an honest critique of what the guy was wearing. I stay out of SW&D because i have nothing nice to say.

To address your real question, I will generally hold my tongue unless the member is really pissing me off and is just begging for it. I've slipped once in all my years here.

We all know what is motivating this thead, however. If the photo in question had been posted once or twice, I would have said nothing. I dropped a not so subtle hint to stop posting it, without making any disparaging comments about the woman in the photo after it appeared for the 20th time, because frankly, i was sick of seeing it in the hot wimminz threads.

His latest posts in the latina thread demonstrated a total lack of class though, even if he had explicit permission to post the latina's photos on the net, which I highly doubt. At best, he's exploting the hopes of a poor single mother and trying to make himself out to be some kind of player in the process. More than likely, he paid her, which I wouldn't have a problem with in and of itself, were it brought up in the proper context, and without said member trying to make himself look good by challenging another member to post pictures of his gf in response. Anyway, I can't get over how tasteless his posts were in that thread and that it didn't even seem to register with him. He actually thinks he's "the man." Sad.

As this is the STYLEforum, I think clothings should be harshly critiqued, if the poster invites such.

Significant others (be it woman, man, or animals for those so inclined) on the other hand, should be off limits and most importantly, probably not be posted in the first place.
