Is gingham spring/summer only?

gingham is year-round approved........of course, lighter colors are more seasonal appriate for spring/summer, regardless of the pattern (or even if solid). However, there are no formal rules....wear what you like when you like.

I tend to reserve it for spring/summer as I do with tartan plaids for fall/winter.

I have lighter ginghams and darker ginghams - a gingham for all seasons, if you will. Actually, I really need to diversify out of solids and ginghams!

Side question, but are all your ginghams mto/bespoke? It's difficult to find dress shirts (not button down), particularly by Italians, RTW with gingham. I did see some in the window at Domenico Vacca but didn't pursue it.

I dont know about Italians but TM Lewin has a bunch.

I personally like 'em in every season but winter. I think blue/burgundy/purple ginghams look especially good in the fall paired with jackets and sweaters.

The only gingham I have at the moment is a dark orange/light orange gingham. It's more fall/winter than spring or summer. I would like to get a red gingham and also a navy gingham.

I think it depends on scale.

The big ones, where the lines are 4-5 mm thick, I wear in warm weather

The small ones, where the lines are 2-3 mm thick, I wear year round.

Color also matters; blue is more versatile whereas pink/red seem pretty summery/casual

I wear gingham year round and love it. That said, some colors do look suspect in winter.
