If you're not at T14 forget it. Your life is over. Climb into a dumpster and wait for the inevitable end.

Ha! You wish. Unless you're in the top 10% of your class there's no WAY you'll be able to find a dumpster.

I was really tempted to let this thread die...

Instead of listening to the negatives, man up, deal with life and try to find a job..any job..any where. Bitching and moaning solves nothing. Law school is a rip off, it teaches you nothing and the first few years out suck. Aside from having one publication my resume is rather plain, decent school, middle of the class but I busted ******, found a job at a small firm which lasted over a year and now work a quasi-legal job for the Fed Gov. Is it exactly what I thought I'd be doing? No. That said I have a guaranteed paycheck for the next two years and can only hope that by then another mediocre firm will hire me. The point is that you have a LONG career ahead of you and most of your classmates will fizzle out. Use these crappy years to benefit you in the long run.

Even when the economy was good, corporate law wasn't what it was. Most law students don't think they'll be one of the 90% of all big firm associates who leave their firms by the third or fourth year. After that, most take a pay cut.

You know that reading all these threaks makes you want to see what it's all about.

If you just give me a J.D. and a six-figure salary I'd be happy to see what it's all about.

One of the few jobs where people still wear suits, carry briefcases, and have secretaries. Sometimes they get to do all that in a big, tall, gleaming, glass & steel skyscraper. A few lawyers even have a Rolodex on their desk still.

All the historic trappings of having 'made it'.

Eh, you get the same thing other fields. For example, lobbyists always have a Rolodex on display; it's how they make money.

My guess is that the perceived combination of income, job security, and prestige simply outpaces reality.
