Curious about opinions re: corduroy pants and sport coats. I like the idea of an in-between which can be worn with heavier cotton twill shirts and with jeans.

Corduroy is a very good idea, in both jackets and pants.

Recently made the jump into this territory. Was happy with the result.

Corduroy trousers: absolutely. Corduroy odd jacket, yes but you will find more polarized opinions on this item on SF.

I used to have several Corduroy SC and pants, but found them requiring a lot of efforts to pair properly and have since moved away from them.

I like corduroy pants. I don't have a lot of them, but I like the ones that I own.

Really? I found they don't require any more effort pairing than khakis- which is to say, pretty much none at all. Olive or tan cords + tweed jacket = done. Need to pick up a gray pair sometime too.

I think the quality definitely matters in cheaper pairs. Not sure if EXPENSIVE pairs offer an advantage. I have two pairs of Uniqlo corduroy trousers and, while they're OK, I always feel like i'm wearing something delicate. They pull easily and the wales "dent" (make impressions - like when i cross my legs, etc) in a way that doesn't seem to come out until they're washed. I recently got pairs of both Banana Republic and J Crew corduroy trousers (both from their outlets) and they're WORLDS better. Obviously, I wouldn't consider those two "luxury" or "expensive" (or even "good quality"), but the quality difference is noticeable. I would say your Lands end are probably on par with or better than these two brands.

Cord sportcoats can go with pretty much any pair of jeans of khakis. I have a light brown and a dark brown cord sport coat, and where them quite often.

Just got two pairs of cords from L.L. Bean so recently I haven't worn either of them yet. I am wearing a pair of Lands End cords at this moment. I think I must have about a half-dozen other pairs of cords. I couldn't imagine not owning several. They make a most excellent complement for a tweed jacket in most circumstances and look just fine worn without a jacket.

As for corduroy jackets, I don't own any at the moment, but I have owned several in the past that gave good service. Good for casual or the lower end of dressy casual wear, I think.

In the days of my youth, 50+ years ago, the olive corduroy jacket was almost as much a staple of the young man's wardrobe as the navy blazer. A lot of the boys at my prep school, myself included, had them. However, they have not fared as well over the long haul as the classic navy blazer.
