Is Cordovan Supposed to do this?

So, I thought I'd give my new cordovan loafers a little brushing. (This is my first pair of cordovan shoes). I used one of my good horsehair brushes for the job. Well, after brushing the top with only a few strokes, some weird scratches developed.

See here

Is Cordovan supposed to scratch from a mere brushing? What is going on here?

This is my first experience with cordovan, so I appreciate the help. (I'm likely just screwing it up myself).

It's normal, but then scratches will disappear after buffing. Cordovan behaves very differently from calf.

First rule of cordovan shoes - never worry about cordovan shoes. You could polish them with poop and sandpaper, and they'd come out pretty much okay.

That was my problem. Forgot the sandpaper.

I hope you enjoy your shoes. What style and brand do you have?
