I can't even hear the word cordovan without getting annoyed. When I was at Andover I had to room with this guy Robert Ackley who was the biggest a-hole on earth. No one in the school could stand the creep. At night he was always picking his pimples and telling me how many girls he had given the time to(obviously a pencil necked geek and a virgin). The guy was about 6'3 and weighed 130 lbs and never brushed his teeth or changed his dirty socks and the room stunk so much I had to leave the window open even in the freezing winter. Well anyway, he had about a dozen pairs of cordovans that he was always cleaning with some smelly crap. I guess he thought he was some sort of stylish guy with his smelly socks and mossy teeth because he wore cordovans[IMG]
Anyway, I transferred to another room mate, Stradlater, but I'll never forget Ackley and his cordovans.

what is this catcher in the rye crap [IMG]

I'm surprised that not more people got your joke.

    Well done.

It's so subtle, so hard to get. Right up there, in fact, with "to get to the other side" as a punchline. But I'll set aside today's NY Times and I'll ponder for a few hours and see if I can understand it.

As to the words "always" and "people", a sampling of one might not offer ironclad proof of general character or appearance, ya think??

    Sincerely,
    'Robert Ackley'

Now that it's been established that horseshoes are AaF, what do you consider the quintessential cordovan shoe design?

Probably a pair of wingtip, oxford or derby, though I am partial to the oxford version.

Try as I might, I just can't wear those low-vamped tassel loafers without feeling like a nancy boy.

+1 on the very low vamps (what Brooks calls its low-vamp penny). These have a higher vamp:

I think the best tassel loafers are based on this model.

If what you wear reduces you to feeling like a nancy boy ... it's not really about what you are wearing.

    Collagen? Who told you that?

There was an article I read when trying to decide what type of maintenance product would best achieve my desired results.

I can't find it though I *think it might've been a pamphlet I read at the SF alden shop while trying on some shell chuks before i settled on my capboots.

Here is a writeup also stating this though I'm not familiar with the company and thus, how reliable the info is. I know for a fact that i did read this somewhere else though the deets have slipped my mind. [IMG]

Spoken like someone who's never tried on the low-vamp tassel loafers.
