I'm looking at a pair of size 30 waist New Standards in the Buying and selling forum, and the waist is 17 inches (leghtwise, around the back)!!
I don't doubt the width, I'm just surprised by it.

My 'work pants' (plain 501s) are a size 32, when I bought them they were so tight I could barely button them, now I can fit my palm down the front perpendicular-ways, yet they're only 16.5 inches lenghtwise across the waist!!

Are all of you really putting up with this much stretching? All that jean bunching up when you tighten your belts?

Am I overstating it? or is it really that drastic?

Maybe I'm in the minority, but big pants are cinched in tight by a belt can be really uncomfortable, plus you get really weird bunching, how do so many of you put up with this?

size 30 NS starts off as a 32, so 16", stretches to 17" after a while

That's why people size down on APC.

if you're a size 30 waist then you need an apc in a 28 or 29.

Yeah,, I know that, I'm just surprised by the sheer amount, even when sizing down three sizes it seems you'd still have a pretty stretched out waist band.

I mean, if you're a 32 and size down the recomended 2 sizes (to a 30), and end up with an effective 34 inch waisted pair, doesn't that seem extreme?

Personally, I have a hard time pants that much bigger and not looking kinda silly, so I was just wondering how people here wear something like that.

It's fine, seriously. If your true waist is about 32" and you normally wear size 32 jeans, chances are, most of them have stretched to 34"(lay them flat and line up the waist band and then measure at the top). Most people here let them fall at their hips, and if you're a size 32, chances are your waist is about 34". That's just what happens. Size 30 APCS measure 32" straight out the box pretty much, so they stretch from there. People aren't lying to you, and there are thousands of APC pics here and on www.superfuture.com if you're still scared. You'll be fine if you size down 2. They'll stretch out of course, but they'll be fine. Look at pictures or just buy another jean. There are tons of jeans out there. All jeans will stretch an inch or 2 in the waist though, especially if you just let them sit on your hips like most people and don't pull them way up just below your navel at your "true waist", which probably won't be that comfortable.

Thanks, I didn't mean to imply people were lying to me.
I just saw the stretching #'s and wondered how others coped.
I think I just wear jeans higher up on my waist than most people.

Oh, and I'm crazy obsessive and have to fret over EVERY purchase I ever make.

Look at pictures, man. There are a ton of them. I'm serious though. Sufu and even here have threads with a ton of APC NS pics if you search for them with the search button.

The thing is that most jeans size 32 are not 32" on the waist. They are somewhere around 34-ish. They are size 32 because where you measure, around the narrowest part of your waist, is 32", but down where jeans sit which is usually at least a couple-3 inches lower is around 34".

But your question is still valid, because jeans could conceivably stretch to a weird shape so that they would have to be cinched way up by a belt, etc. If you size down at least 1 or 2 from your "size", you will be fine though. The waist will stretch to fit. If you don't size down, the waist won't need to stretch because it will be big enough/too big to begin with.

My true waist if 32 and i've been wearing my NS ever since 3 weeks ago. I got it 30. It was really tight first, especially whenever i sit down, the button hit my belly and it felt really annoying. However, now the waist feels really loose, almost a bit too big. I hope the waist will just in this size but i know it will stretch out more..

Depends on how u want the look. If i had a chance again, i'd probably go with 29, so that's like 3 size down, but that's just me. My opinion is 2 size down to look slim, 3 size down to look skinny, now its ur decision [IMG]
