The "typical american male" is a block-headed, jackass simpleton barely able to wipe his own ass, let alone make a decision on whether or not something is aesthetically-pleasing.

It this case it's more than there are a few interaction dynamics that are "ready to wear" so to speak and don't require too much thought and involvement before being usable and giving you the impression of being in a healthy/functional relationship. The guy/girl shopping trip is one of them, with all the hard work sincere connection and understanding takes, most of the times people just don't bother with all that emotional investment and go for the tightly scripted interactions like this one. What's great is you could switch partners with another shopper and still continue your conversation like nothing happened, as everybody understands the limits and archetypes of this particular situation (the couple shopping trip).

The whole "I hate clothes shopping" mentality that permeates average guys comes from stupid stereotypes about gay men being the only ones that are fashionable and a refusal to spend any money on clothing beyond what's needed to cover one's self, looks conformist among ones peers, and attact a girl. These same dudes tend to not have a sensitivity to shopping for other things, just clothes.

Burberry any-scarf FTW. A bit over-played, yes, but still better then a lot of the trash

It's been said that the ability to dress well (money aside), is linked to intelligence!
