Uses either AC or DC? How old is this thing? Didn't Westinghouse and Edison settle the war of currents decades earlier?

Yes, replaced preferably as I think I can see bare wires.

It shouldn't be hard to replace it yourself if you have a bit of soldering skill. Or if you get a professional to do it, consider having a three-prong cord attached.

I love the boots/spats - thank you very much for a glimpse of history.

It is usually pretty easy to fit a new cord to appliances - if you can't do it then there should be a store or electrician nearby who could do it for you.

Find a museum and send it there. It can be presented as a gift of the late gentleman.

Evidently, some parts of New York City still had DC service into the 1950's.

I can think of many parts of NYC with AC/DC service today.

Just as a point of clarification, DC service in NYC was ended on Nov 14, 2007. Any DC service ConEd provides is now done using an on premise converter.

I believe some prominent areas in San Francisco still have AC-DC service available.
