Is a cashmere sports coat hot?

And I mean hot as in not cooling down much. I hope it's "hot" for the ladies

So, seriously, is it considered a fall/winter type of clothing, or can it be worn in summer evenings as well? I just saw a very nice cashmere sports coat (double vented) at Barney's for $200 (regular $400) and I'm very tempted. But I'm afraid it might be overkill for San Diego.

It would look kind of out of place on a summer evening in San Diego, but you could probably wear it in the fall and winter if you decide to pick it up.

As Tomasso and Soph imply, the appearance of any weight cashmere looks warm (making it more suited to cooler seasons) but it's the weight that determines exactly how warm you feel wearing it.

I find a mid-weight cashmere jacket is very wearable and not really hotter than an equivalent weight wool jacket.

An unlined very lightweight cashmere jacket could be worn on summer evenings I think. Loro Piana had a number of these last season.

Cashmere warms me up quicker, than other jackets. But it's a soothing, blankety kind of warmth. Not uncomfortable, especially with rooms being heated to lesser degrees, these days. My sister has a number of cashmere jackets from Saint Laurent, that were intended to be worn in spring. That's when she wears them.

I imagine the sports coat you saw is a heavier weight since they are selling it for fall/winter. As everyone else has mentioned, there are lighter weight cashmeres that can be worn even in the summer (as long as it`s not blazing hot).
