I have noticed a lot of US firms like JPress, Brook and Banana Republic are selling items tagged 'Irish Linen'. I have a shirt like that I bought about 5 years ago.

Years ago you never bought an item of Irish linen that was not tagged with that Irish Linen Guild decal like a claddagh ring or something.

I am aware that for instance some Irish linen firms have set up in India.

You don't think they are failing to use the decal because they are saying it is Irish when it is actually Indian linen produced by an Irish company?

A bit like the Italian clothes that were mocked up in China to all but one process then exported to Europe and sold as Italian made?

Any thoughts.

The company JCrew buys its Linen from (I forget the name) has factories in India, but also in Ireland. I am not sure where JCrew's fabric comes from.

I have two JCrew linen shirts and, while they are not especially refined, they are quite sturdy and I am very happy with the purchase.

I bought shirts last year from J.Crew that were made in a company in Ireland, at least according to their website and catalogs.

What would you call it? Not trying to be snarky, I'm just curious as to what you call them - I've always seen/heard "Claddagh."

Not quite. They're stitched to JCrew's specs by a supplier in China from imported "Irish Linen". Anyway, I like them.

You're correct. J.Crew has a few linen shirts available now in stores that are indeed made of Irish linen, in China. I saw them earlier today.

I wasn't aware my panties were in a bunch. In fact, I went out of my way to make it clear that I wasn't trying to be nasty. If he was kidding, my bad for not immediately gleaning his joke through the 15 words he posted on an internet forum.
