i never even knew what an ipod was until a few months ago, thought i'd buy one since the concept seemed pretty cool. I go to the store, it clearly says on the box that this ipod plays movies, i get all the itunes **** together, and now I'm being told my rented movies 'can't be played on this ipod'?? It's a little square one that cost like $150, conveniently apple doesn't say what model it is. The resolution and graphics on the screen are better than my laptop, am I seriously supposed to believe it doesn't play movies at all?? I would've stuck with my walkman had I known it wouldn't play movies. Google searches aren't answering any of my questions. I feel like an old man asking these questions, but I really am only 25.

I have the iPhone4 and I downloaded a VLC app. There are a couple out there this ones just called "VLC" Then when you sync it to iTunes you can go into the 'apps' section and click and drag your video files into it then play them. After downloading this app I could also watch clips sent to me through email, which you can't normally do.

If you need more help I'll send you a couple screen shots.

If you're adamant about keeping the iPod, Ben85's advice is solid.

However, I and many other despise the bloated POS software called iTunes, and prefer drag-and-drop or better software like Zune instead.

I highly recommend the Sansa Clip+, Zune HD, or Cowon J3.
