I would be floored if they unveiled it this summer. That's all I'm saying. I also seriously doubt they'd drop a new iPhone less than 12 months prior to the last model. Makes no sense. 4S is still selling like crazy and you'd make a ton of 4S adopters deal with serious buyer's remorse.

My point is all signs point to fall. That's all.

EDIT: We are just going in circles here and will need to agree to disagree. I'm going to stay neutral on this and say it could go either way.

    Noted.

(My local AT&T has the One X on the floor. Off to see it. I'll post my thoughts in a separate thread I started last week.)

I know it's stupid to chase every rumor, but the latest one today from iLounge makes a lot of sense to me. Especially because they imply that Apple will change the aspect ratio (and pixel resolution, something along the lines of 1280 x 720).

I'm not saying this is a great move, but it makes sense. Especially because the rumor goes on to say that the width would not increase, just the height. As I said before, I think Apple decreased the width with respect to the iPhone 4 as a step forward. Making it wider again doesn't make much sense.

The rumor finishes by talking about a newer dock connector. This is somewhat troubling to people who purchased docks to use with the iPhone's/iPod touches.

Who the f really knows, but it's fun to speculate.

I read the article and a lot of it sounds like they are just echoing the same rumors we have been hearing for a while. The only new thing is the metal being applied to the back. Aesthetically that may not be as nice, but I could see it adding to the overall strength and durability of the phone.

As for the pin connector, it was bound to happen at some point. We have been living with the same connector for years and it would prevent the device from getting much smaller. I am willing to bet that with the new connector we will need an increase in data speed transfers too. Possibly compatible with Apple's Thunderbolt.

I don't think Thunderbolt and the iPhone will have anything to do with each other for anytime soon, if ever.

If the next iPhone has metal on the back, I expect the entire backing to be made of it, not just the middle. This mockup looks bizarre with metal in the middle only.

If they make the next iPhone to be flat again and keep the stainless steel sides, then it's going to be a nightmare to hold in your hand like the iPhone 4/4S. (I.E, require a case of some sort.)

I'm seriously leaning towards getting the One X next month. Battery life is solid from what all the reviews have to say with respect to the AT&T model. Then if the next iPhone blows me away, I'll bite the bullet and pay that BS early upgrade fee.

I find the iPhone 4/4S easy to hold with a solid grip, case or no case. Much nicer then the iPhone 3/3S was. I used to drop my iPhone 3 all the time. Not the 4.

I don't think I would want them to make it much thinner as that would impact it negatively here.

I can't use my iPhone 4 without a case. I've tried several times. It's insanely slippery. Also I found it really uncomfortable in my hand if I'm holding it up to my ear. Those stainless steel sides do it no favors in that regard. It's also awkward to pick up off a table. (Plus the camera lens can easily be scratched sans-case because it's flush with the backing.)

Had no issues using the 3G iPhone sans-case. The curved backing was easier to grip in one hand during calls. The hard plastic was less slippery to the touch. Sides were curved too and provided a better grip.

The One X alleviates both issues because the polycarbonate is awesome to the touch and it has a slightly curved backing. But it's a touch too large to handle with one hand comfortably (unless you have big hands).

While I agree on the ease of the camera lens scratching, I can't with much else. I do use a thin case, but I do on all my phones.

I hate cases, I don't use them, my iPhone 4 lens is absolutely shot to shit.

One of the best things about Apple's strategy of releasing a single new phone a year (and keeping the same form factor for two) is the wealth of cases available. The options are limitless. Since most other phone manufactures are constantly changing their designs and releasing new models, you don't really have a lot of solid options when it comes to cases.

I like mine. It's fairly minimal and hardly adds any size or weight to the device.
