You’re most welcome. Enjoy!Many thanks!
Hi folks, I'm John, currently living in Kansas City, MO, but grew up in northern Illinois and Chicago. I got into menswear a bit more seriously a few years ago after I spent a bunch of money at JCrew updating my slim fit wardrobe. I started to notice a lot more menswear stuff on Instagram during shortly after that and quickly realized I should have spent my money elsewhere. I've since spent way too much money at Spier & Mackay, and have recently purchased items from Cavour, Collaro, Rubato, Brycelands, and some local shops. I'm kind of at a tapering off point and trying to enjoying the wardrobe I've put together but it's so damn hot I can't wear any of it right now.
Hi John, I’m personally not familiar with some of the companies that you’ve mentioned. However, I am a big fan of & customer of Spier & Mackay. Kansas City is a great town--I've lived in a dozen towns in the US and Kansas City is the only one I really miss. Part of family still lives there and I'm headed back mid-September. Hope it cools off.Hi folks, I'm John, currently living in Kansas City, MO, but grew up in northern Illinois and Chicago.
Don't hold your breath!Hope it cools off.
Thanks, I'll do it. I'm probably going to do a quick menswear tour one morning. My go to used to be Mr. Guy (Mister Guy?) that morphed into Pinstripes on the Plaza but Trent shut it down and retired a few years ago. Also Hudson and Jane in the Crestwood Shops (still there.)Don't hold your breath!
If you're in the Overland Park area, I recommend checking out Newton James. Opened up in July. Lots of Sid Mashburn, Drake's, Jack Donnelly (a chinos/denim company out of Austin), Joseph Cheaney shoes, some Japanese denim brands. Really cool spot and the owner is very personable and always around.
Hi Jim, thank you for being candid. I recommend that you look up the author Alan Flusser, check out his books there are so many menswear channels on YouTube though I’m not sure specifically which are best to recommend for you. Message me through the site if you have specific questions. I’m happy to assist.Hello. I'm Jim. I have zero fashion sense. In fact, if it's possible, I might have negative fashion sense. I know absolutely nothing about how to look presentable. A long catholic school education has made me allergic to suitcoats and ties. If I am wearing a tie, I am probably in line at someone's wake. Anyways, I am short, bald and over 60. BUT, thanks to drug-induced anorexia (Mounjaro) I have lost 40+ lbs since the photo in the icon was taken, so I figure I should start learning. I don't know anything about brands, but I have a couple of Fatface shirts and sweaters that I like. My style is sort of ... I dunno... New Englandish... maybe Vermont laid back natural fibers listening to old Jim Croce and burning a pile of leaves sort of thing. I like that Swedish Hippie guy on Instagram. I don't even know what I don't know and reading these forums makes the learning curve seem frighteningly steep. Any and all advice is thoroughly appreciated.
Yes, I live near them and they have some great stuff. Have you been to Houndstooth in River Market? They opened up a second location in OP.Also Hudson and Jane in the Crestwood Shops
Houndstooth sounds very familiar but I don't believe I've been, certainly not to a location in River Market. I haven't lived in KC since 89, but moved to St Louis for 5 years (hated it in a KC/STL kinda way) and have been in Seattle since 95. I've visited KC regularly (sort of) but haven't really done much clothes shopping. The Plaza used to be truly great back in the day but most of the good shops have been run out of there.Yes, I live near them and they have some great stuff. If you're doing the rounds I think it's worth checking out one of the locations.Houndstooth sounds very familiar but I don't believe I've been
