Hi all, David here. Been reading bits of the forum for many years, but for some reason today was the day I decided to join - perhaps my spending a few hours this morning to pick up vintage shoes from some guy at a storage unit was the trigger that reminded me of this place.

I'm based in Providence, RI and try to pop down to NYC at least once or twice a year.

Hello,
Gosh, how civilized, an introductions thread that people actually use!

I'm Guy, 51 from south west UK. I've read posts here on and off for several years. I've been trying to raise my style game since the pandemic and I'm having the urge to ask a question or two so I finally registered.

Hello hollaholla, absolutely so. One can be cosmopolitan & chic & civilized Monday through Friday & a brazen punk on the weekends. There are no contradictions of terms as long as one does it with panache. Welcome to the forum!

Hey hey! Happy to be here.

I joined to grab some stuff off of the classifieds that was too good to pass up. I've been lurking for a bit, but when I saw that the seller of some shirts also had a black and white Prince of Wales check overcoat from Spier & Mackay that I'd been looking at forever but couldn't quite justify purchasing, I knew the universe was giving me an opportunity.

Most of my life I've dressed in the typical "metal" uniform of a band shirt, jeans, and boots or sneakers, either in a monochromatic or achromatic theme. I had some watches in the past, but lost them all until this year. I've essentially been rebuilding from zero over the last two years- I moved to where I live with only two suitcases and my cat.

This year I've branched out to new things like MTM brown and burgundy boots, floral print shirts, Kyoto-style pants and a top from Sou Sou, Venetian loafers, blue Scottish cashmere sweaters, alpaca hats, scarves, and sweaters, and linen shorts and pants. Essentially trying to work on layering different textures (herringbone especially) and shades and a wider variety of fabrics in.

The main theme is still based around the color of the metal shirt when I'm wearing one, but I feel like a, say, black Blut Aus Nord shirt with blue printing or this Lantlos shirt paired with steely blue linen pants, Zonta museum calf brogued boots in chestnut, and a powder blue cashmere cardigan or herringbone navy linen jacket is a much more refined and iconoclastic look than the average. Emphasis on the latter if I'm wearing short pants from Sou Sou and Venetian loafers.

I've also gotten back into watches over the last year or so. Grabbed some budget watches that I'm a fan of from the usual brands like Orient, Seiko, Zeppelin, Junghans, Citizen, and Revelot (a small independent company in Malaysia), as well as some custom-made straps for them in cool leathers like stingray and Badalassi from a maker in Ho Chi Minh that I found on etsy.

As far as suits, I had some made in Bangkok at Jesse and Sons a few years ago (highly recommended) that I love. They've lasted 8 years of professional use, with one just now needing to be sent back for repairs. They lean much more towards a British/Italian style than the American Ivy League style that's so pervasive here, partly because I use them for work (wine). Love me some ticket pockets (for corkscrews), flapless pockets, high gorge lines, no break, and high arm holes in my suits.

Anyway, I'll be around, liking stuff here and there and commenting occasionally. But I'm mostly looking to swoop in on deals for stuff that'll refine my wardrobe more. (I'm a 32 waist x 30 length and 38 regular suit size, a pretty standard smedium, if anyone's got things in those sizes feel free to shoot me a message) Good to be here. 🤓

Hey there, it sounds to me as you f you’re doing well on your ‘Sartre-orial’ journey. Being open minded & having the willingness towards eclecticism is definitely something positive in my book. Welcome to the forum!

This is a thread in which you introduce yourself, regulars and new members alike. This is one thread I'd like to keep reasonably civil and reasonably clean, so, let's do that, okay?

I'll start. I'm Fok, one of the adminstrators on the forum. I have a bunch of kids and live in Idaho. If anyone told me any of the above 6 years ago, I would have wanted whatever they were smoking.

I wear jeans 24/7 - mostly Triple Works and RRL, and otherwise, have a lot of belts and overpriced Italian made sneakers. I mix up Wings+Horns, RRL, Jil Sander, Margiela, Haversack, Woolrich Woolen Mills, and SNS Herning,

Hope that you guys have a good time on the forum.

Cheers,

Fok.
I'm Spencer, based in Richmond VA. Happy to be here.

Hi, I'm Nathan. I've been living in Laguna Beach for the past 15 or so years. Originally I'm from Buffalo, NY and I went to school in the city, a loong time ago.

I went through a phase maybe 10 years ago where I would just wear suits everywhere, and I read a lot of styleforum at that time.

I've toned it back, trying not to alienate my fellow humans, and try to keep it to just shirts (usually button up), pants, and shoes. I'm still partial to oxfords though I've branched out to own some sneakers as I grew up calling them in Buffalo, and I even have some jeans now though they are not blue.

I still have a secret stash of suits though that I bust out every so often.

Hi Nathan from lovely Laguna Beach. You’re not far from one of my favorite menswear shops, Gary’s Newport Beach. Welcome to the forum!

I am a very traditional guy. My style has been much the same since I got out of short pants in the mid-1950s. A Yankee by birth, I now find myself in Austin. There are a few of us here.
