Hi friends, longtime lurker from the days when I worked in menswear. Now in art and education and, after years of adjunct pay and then a couple kids, my closet is looking particularly dismal. Now teaching full time and wanting to give my clothes more thought than I've been able to the past few years. As expected, the menswear landscape is ever shifting, so looking to plug back in and see who's making what well! Thanks

I was a very active member from 2007 to 2017. Over the fullness of time, I've come to realize the confluence of a Wall St career and a burgeoning appreciation for menswear led to far too many purchases. Now retired, it's time to find good homes for the bulk of my collection.

I'll be listing here and on ebay, please don't hesitate to reach out if you have questions. While I'd like to maximize sale prices, in the end the $ aren't going to make a difference in the way we live and I'd prefer to sell to members here on styleforum for a price we both can live with.

best,

Hi, all! I have just joined after hearing about Styleforum on and off for the last couple of years. I just turned 50, and have been developing an interest in classic menswear style over the last several years as I hit middle age and got promoted at work to the point where I am regularly at major global events and the UN and needed to stop looking like the youth worker I used to be. So I began a journey to learn about how to look good, feel good, and be professionally appropriate. I have begun to purchase M2M clothes and wish I had the budget for full bespoke :).

I'm still learning, and hope to continue my journey with you all here.

Hello Simon, glad that you finally joined. Your work sounds interesting & exciting. There are very some good M2M manufacturers that produce excellent quality garments at a fair price and above. Enjoy your 50;s & your journey towards full bespoke. Welcome to the forum!

Good day Simon,
Welcome to the forum. You have to be very particular and do your research, but there are a few MTM houses that do work that is every bit as good as bespoke.

Bespoke is really all about the fit. Sure, the experience, the touching of fabric books etc. But, mostly the fit and the fact that most of your MTM houses won't carry the ultra fine bunches that many tailors will.
That's why you have to be so particular.

Welcome, this is a great forum, I was a lurker for years before I joined.

Hi, I come here to talk and chat with people who are into menswear as I am getting into shoes and Oxford type shirts.

Good day,
Shoes are a great place to start your journey. It's one of the first place women look and they are literally the anchor of your style.

Welcome aboard, Patrick

Good day, I was a long time lurker myself before I joined. Still don't say much, but I do read the threads.

Covid changed the landscape as much as anything.

Luckily we are actually seeing a resurgence in classic men's style, not from the people who have to wear it for work etc. But from the people who want to wear it.

Welcome, Patrick

Thank you (and Sinyo) for the welcome! I've had good luck with my M2M so far. Proper Cloth shirts that I'm pleased with, and a designer here in Toronto who did a great job on the jacket I'm wearing in my profile picture. :)

@Sinyo, my work is definitely interesting and challenging. Lots of time on the road, so my choices of what clothes to get also have to be things that go well into a capsule-style wardrobe for travel, and be appropriate for the Climate Change Conference every year or for doing humanitarian work in Ukraine...

Hello there,

My name is De Novo (means from the beginning/afreash/anew etc) and I am from Australia.

I am fairly new to men's fashion and have been wanting to try new things to help with my mental health. So I thought I would start with my attire, maybe that can help with my outlook on my self.

I have no idea where to start heh.

I normally wearing branded t-shirts, trackys (sweat pants), skateshoes, bagy chinos (normally navy blue or black) and random jackets.

I do want to look more presentable for him. I have always wanted to wear suits and casual classic men's wear but I am also very caution on what people would think on my appearance.

Sorry for the ramble but that is a bit of me and what my brain thinks.

It is nice to meet you all.

Hello De Novo, the best way to start is to seek what you need & to make inquires, learn about the products that you wish to purchase. Style isn't about fast fashion. Remain open minded, in time you'll develop your own unique style. This forum is an excellent place to begin & to gather info. Welcome!
