I'm guessing page in the State House downtown? Or a lobbying firm? Spent some time down there.

Good luck.

Can't go wrong wearing a suit. Go with solid navy, white shirt and conservative tie. Make sure your belt matches your shoes and you're in good shape. Make sure your shoes are shined. Be prepared for the following questions: 1. Tell me about yourself. (Don't blow this question off, most people think this is just a casual question. You have a chance to take control of the interview here and highlight your past successes) 2. What do you know about us? (Make sure you visit their website before going for the interview) 3. Why did you leave your last job? (Put a positive spin on things. Never badmouth a former employer) 4. What is your biggest weakness? (Pick a weakness that isn't central to the job... ie if you're interviewing for a sales job don't say your biggest weakness is that you can't sell or you're shy... then tell them what you're doing to correct it and try to give examples of how you've corrected it.) 5. Why should we hire you? (List out your successes BEFORE you go to the interview. They'll come in handy here.) Best tip, try to think about things in terms of dollars and cents. In the past have you won any awards? Did you solve a problem/project that resulted in increased revenue or lowering costs? For example did you lower costs by a certain percentage? Increase effeciency by a certain number? Those kinds of things are that win job interviews. Good luck!

Did you just randomly Google interview advice? Maybe from About.com?

Conne, I seem to remember a while back you were asking around about DC as you were considering work/living there?

Conne,
Politics is what I call the "sartorial undertaker brigade" - navy or charcoal suit world (or in Europe, some red for the ladies). Even if you are not expected to show up in a suit or jacket every day, at least for the first impression you should wear something better. There are variations - if your future employer is rather on the Republican side, conservative dress (power suit) will make you "one of the gang", if he is on the on the democrat side, something more "relaxed" - grey suit, maybe a checkered shirt, etc - will do the thing. Aside exceptions, that will fit the political divide in all first world countries, but your interviewer will want to see how at ease you are in a situation that is not at ease. Do more intelligence work on the potential employer, and also have in mind that chiefs of staff are horse - traders - they look for future staffers in the college intern pool.
Good luck!
