Interview Attire Question for the GF

My girlfriend is set to go on a round of interviews starting and now is looking at buying new suits for them.

I know many say not to go for a black suit for men. My question is, for the most part, does this apply to women as well?

My initial reaction is yes, it does, and she should go for a charcoal suit or navy. On the other hand, I feel like many 20 somethings coming out of school automatically wear/buy a black suit, so is it really that big of deal. That is the same for guys, so probably bad thinking.

Thoughts?

Womenswear tends to have no rules. They aren't expected to look proper as men are (in most situations). What is she interviewing for?

accounting....no big public firms or anything, smaller firms in general.

unfortunately it is in the god forsaken state of MI, so pickings are slim.

Black is fine for women, but I say she wears short low cut dresses... if she wants to succeed at least.

Try a charcoal pant suit with hidden knee pads.

Whatever as long as the cleavage gets the spotlight.

Women fucked it all up when they came into the workplace. Men have professional clothing standards... none exist for women. This is why they should have stayed in the home.

Women have skirt suits, pant suits and dresses they can wear to the office. The question is does this office have a distinct dress code (professional dress enforced for example?) if they do it should be fairly simple for her to figure out.

Technically, the same way people say men should stay away from black suits, I think women should stay away from pant suits. But that's my opinion.

Especially the collar outside the jacket on the lapels. Dear god how I loathe that look.

I refuse to associate with anyone who wears something so ridiculous. No matter how hot she is, she's immediately ruined.

Black is a womenswear basic and so is fine. Just avoid all black. Since it's an interview for an accounting job, she needs something conservative. I would probably pick gray or navy over black, but it's a small difference.

Remind her to wear good shoes and carry a nice purse and briefcase/portfolio.
