Has anyone had anything made by Tim the Tailor? This was the place recommended by LNC. I'm thinking about having them make a pair of trousers for me, and my wife is interested in some herself. Thoughts?

Thanks, Ed. Any idea when he's taking delivery? We were thinking about hitting up Tip Top and dropping by next Friday.

He is at the same stage you are in. He is going to Tip Top over the weekend and then to Tim. Honestly, JS, I am at the point where what I'd like in a custom suit can't be done by anyone who charges less than $3,000. Borrelli, Isaia and, for pants Incotex and RLPL, fit me great off the rack and I think I am going to stick with that. Add a little Chu here and there and I'm set. At the end of the day, with Lance, STP, ebay and all the sales, it will be cheaper than most of the bargain tailors and the only thing I am giving up is picking my own fabrics. I went Borrelli, JS, and I can't go back.

Do you know what the price is? I'm thinking of trying Izzy at LS because he comes highly recommended for trousers and he's about $175 for CMT.

Tim for CMT using your fabric, is about $80, with his fabric about $115

D, if you've got the time, you're probably better off going to Tip Top for the fabrics, especially if you're using Tim. $40 a yard (need about 1.5) for basically everything at Tip Top. Much larger selection than Tim will have. I'm sure LS would be fine, but would be more costly.

I hear you, Ed. If I can continue to find high end stuff at fantastic prices, I'll stick with that. But I'm a little weird fit for trousers, and CMT gives me more choices for fabric and style, and presumably better fit. I was happy with my LNC trousers - not perfect, and not nearly as nice as the Incotex I have, but I'd say on par with Zanella, and a bargain.

For my wife, bless her gorgeous self, she has a hard time finding clothes off the rack that fit, are well made, and don't cost a fortune. Women's clothes are a rip off, at many levels. If Tim works, she'll be getting better quality and better fit for a better price. Plus it's fun.

Thanks, J. I have literal piles of Tip Top cloth from the various London Lounge trips out there. It is a very, very bad place.

The current price is $49.50 a yard for most of the cloths. Still a price that cannot be beat.

coworker is getting pants made there, I'll let you know.
I'm curious if you saw how these turned out. My wife and I went out to Tip Top today and picked up a few things, including a gorgeous 100% cashmere dark cream large herringbone which she is going to trousers.

    JS,

Mike (?) at Tip Top recommended a gentlemen from Staten Island named Dario Rodriguez. He only makes pants. $90 for CMT assuming waist of 30-38 or so. Dario makes Manhattan office calls and he was at ours on Thurs. Measured my coworker and the pants will be ready in 2 weeks. He seems to have a lot of midtown manhattan customers. He had a few pairs that he was delivery to a customer. They were not Borrelli or Kiton but seemed to be nicely made. He is using a pair of Borrellis to copy for my friend so we'll see what happens.

They mentioned him to me today, and I think I'll give him a try myself soon. I've got his contact information if anyone wants it.
