1. And... we're back. You'll notice that all of your images are back as well, as are our beloved emoticons, including the infamous :foo: We have also worked with our server folks and developers to fix the issues that were slowing down the site.

There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Got an International Make catalog in the mail yesterday. Do any of you get this? Is there any way to isolate the list I/we got on that generated this unsolicited arrival? Not only is it a waste of natural resources (the paper and ink needed to make the catalog as well as the petroleum products used in the clothing), but I hate to think that I carried it out of my mailbox and into my apartment.... I feel dirty!

    Please, please, make it stop.

It's hard out there for a pimp. But the International Male catalog makes it that much easier.

I received one in the mail this past Monday as well. Don't know how they got my name and address in their mailing list. Anyhow, I threw my away.

I think IM is more of a stealth gay porno mag than anything. I doubt the clothes is really even for sale as I can not imagine a human being wearing anything in that catalog.

I haven't gotten one. Don't they want my money? I was thinking of a pirate shirt with at studded black thong and an orange Mr. Snuffalupagous-fur coat.

Let's not forget the bizarre sleeping zipup things that we had as kids... I can't find it on the website right now, but they do have an internationalmale credit card. I cannot think of another card that would send worse signals to whatever stores you are purchasing from.

Do you guys have GQ/Esquire/Cargo subscriptions? I wouldn't be surprised if they sell their subscriber info to IM.

I've seen this FOR SALE at Borders, next to the GQs, Esquire, FHM et al

it's definitely a magazine for the transition from hetero to homo

    A) I would have to see that to believe it. I think pics are in order!!

    B) Are you sure that was borders, and not a random West Village bookstore with leather chaps in the window?

I've seen it at Borders too. I think it is the transition mag between the "Men's Interest" section and the "Gay and Lesbian" section. That and Men's Health.

I'm surprised that no one has posted any illustrations from IM yet in this thread.

I'm sure more than a few geezers here are the "gayest straight men" in their circle of friends [IMG]

I don't think the clothes look particularly (stereotypically) gay at all -- just cheezy and dated. Crockett and Tubbs would've probably shopped from the IM catalog. But then again...

Men's Health is nowhere in their league. Men's Workout, on the other hand, should be displayed right next to the IM catalog. (Men's Workout is not to be confused with Men's Fitness, but the way.)

My uncle used to get their catalog. At that time it was mostly fairly "manly" looking sportswear, really not bad looking in the catalog. Of course, that was in the waning days of the "lumberjill" look among the gay set back in the '70s. My uncle and I visited their store in West Hollywood once, but we found the apparel, while not bad stylistically, to be very shoddily made.

The current catalogs are incomparably more louche and over the top. (I am only familiar with the contents of the current catalogs from what I have seen posted on these fora.)

As I have remarked elsewhere (here or on AAAC, I am not sure which), the International Male catalog certainly puts paid to the notion of gay men as arbiters of taste, elegance and style! I wonder what Carson Kressy thinks of it all. (Actually, about 85 or 90% of what he counsels in his book, most of us would agree with, believe it or not.)
