The optimum number is whatever number you need, and their purpose is whatever you want to use them for. How do you expect us to tell you how many pockets is 'optimal' without knowing what stuff you need to carry in them?

Thanks for your response and apologies for the confusion. I asked simply as a matter of preference and is generally found in the more premium brands around us. I welcome all observations and preferences. This is a mere learning forum for me.

Hi. Regarding the lining I would always go with the 'Savile Row' example, it's a classic plus is full lining. The suitthatfits looks a very low quality lining and is not lined on the back, which is sometimes used for hot climates. The final one also looks a little cheap. Our clients can choose the internal pocket configuration that they want, however, they normally opt for our suggested standard which is two breast pockets (the right wiht a security tab), two card pockets, and a pen pocket on the left (right if you are left handed). Hope that helps.

I prefer a lining that looks like the first one, whether it's a full, half or quarter lining. I like to have a full breast pocket on both sides and a pen pocket on the left. I don't ever find myself using anything else.

i'm tempted to go with number 2, for no other reason than the loud factor.
however take into account that the fancy factor could outweigh the quality factor.
dont compromise quality just because it looks funky!

No idea what your pictures are trying to convey, but if its color or style, then that is completely personal preference.

As for how I want it constructed, I want 1/4 lining. It is a mark of more workmanship.

the first style of lining is more appealing, however I like the brand name or logo printed into the lining fashionably, and if not the brand name/ primary color, based on the color of the jacket and wear I would be wearing it, I would want something either flashy or subtle. Navy Jacket with Golden lining, or Floral lining.
Sleeve lining should also be the same.
As far as pockets. Two in the front, and two inside the jacket with lining covering it.

That looks pretty neat as well. Do you think this would 'match up' to the 1st saville row example?

In terms of pockets, I think a left and right breast pocket, one pen pocket on the left (or ipod sized?) and a card pocket on the bottom left would do well.

In terms of the sleeve lining, I will use white cotton lining. I find the bemberg / poly-viscore lining bunches up around the armpit area and is annoying.

Approve?

It's quite different actually. number iii on the top has no back lining and the wool on the bottom pocket extends out. I wouldn't clasify them as one in the same by any means.
