Made it to KL a few weeks ago. Thought you guys might enjoying seeing what P Lal looks like and some bonus color commentary:
The store front. Apparently they are quite famous locally. The doorman at Le Meridien didn't understand my laughable attempt at pronouncing KL street names. When I eventually showed him my print out map he exclaimed, "Oh P Lal store!" and then jibbered something undescipherable to the cabbie.
The C&J rack. Really nothing else to look at in the whole store but here. The first floor is full of winter clothing. Felt more like TJ MAXX than B1 of Men's Isetan. I suppose that's how they keep their prices so cheap.
The majority of the second floor is flooded with shoe boxes and a couple scattered benches. The clientele was not exactly the American Psycho look alike contest. There was an elderly Chinese husband trying on a pair of Mertons (the shoes looked fabulous, but CJ 348 just didn't "work" on him). Also bumped into a couple of Nigerian fellows picking up some Weymouths (in the background). They were sporting some serious gold bling as well.
While there was no champagne provided to polish my shoes, I did get a logo plastic pen! In all honesty, it broke the first time I tried it.
All in all, you buy from P Lal for the same reason you get shirts at Jantzen or suits at WW Chan -- the price. I have been to all three locations and not one of them feels "high class." Mind you, this is not a complaint, as I adore all the products I have purchased from these guys. I suppose the moral simply is that luxury and style can be quite disjointed.
FYI: I picked up a pair of black Saviles
