I picked up a pair of beautiful shoes that were made by now-defunct Bartley and Sons. I would like to know a bit more about them - they are labelled "Bartley & Sons, 493 Oxford Street London."

They're probably the most nicely constructed shoes I've come across. Does anyone have any information on this maker?

I'd love to see a photo of these shoes.
What does the Bartley & Son marking look like?
It should be something like a leaping fox with a hunting boot above its back.
As you may know, Bartley closed their doors in1952 and the business was taken over by Peal & Co just along Oxford Street.
Peal & Co. in turn closed in 1965/1966 but it is said that they incorporated some of the Bartley branding into their own trademark, so it would be interesting to know if that is true!

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
