Inexpensive suit for changing weight

Hi everyone! So after lurking around this forum for a few months in my quest for a new suit I have finally decided to make my first post. Here's my story...

I am currently in a health/weight loss transformation and I have achieved 75% of my total weight loss goal. 1 year ago I tipped the scales at a soft 250lbs on my 6'-0" frame. The only suit I have ever purchased was from before my weight loss. It was a very over priced suit from Men's Wearhouse (don't plan on ever going back there). It measures 46" chest 40" waist and I've been told it is impossible to get it tailored to fit my current body and look decent. When I put it on it looks pretty bad, like I am swimming in it.

I am now weighing in at about 205lbs and my measurements are currently 42" chest and 36" waist. My goal weight, which I hope to be at in 8 months, is 185lbs which at that time I would guess I will be maybe 40" chest and 34"waist.

With all that said I have to buy a suit now because I have a few weddings and other events in the coming weeks. Will a 42/36 suit that fits me now be able to be tailored in 8/10 months when I measure 40/34"? I'm asking because I don't want to go out and spend a good amount of money on a nice suit that in less than a year it won't fit.

I was thinking of getting a "temporary" suit that will look decent and later on get a nice suit that fits my body at my final weight. Here are some of the temporary ones I have been looking at.

Thanks for your help.

So many sales going on right now- you could get a serviceable "temporary suit" from JosBank, probably 2 for 1 even and be done with them in a few months. Even Target might have something for you.

Macy's Calvin Klein suits wuold get you buy for 1/2 a year as well.

None of these are long-term keepers but you'd be fine for a year.

I'd wait until you hit your target weight before buying anything nice. I just dropped 40 last year which was an entire coat size which required nearly a complete makeover of my wardrobe

If you live near a city I'd find a good off price store and get something inexpensive you can try on. Seriously, you should be able to find a decent suit for a few hundred bucks. Retailers are pretty much giving stuff away right now.

You may want to avoid online unless you live in the sticks, in which case Sierratradingpost.com could probably set you up with a generous return policy. There are coupons floating around if you look.

Thanks for your responses.... I live in San Diego, CA and there is a fair amount of retailers where I live. Nordstroms Rack is probably where I will start and dare I say... Men's Wearhouse is having a 2 for 1 sale. It doesn't really serve me any purpose though to get 2 suits that will need to be replaced.

You might be able to thrift something which will get you through. Take a look at the "official thrift/discount store bragging thread" to get an idea of what is out there.

I was in the market for a decent suit at a decent price recently, and the members of the forum sent me to the Wizard of Ahhhs on eBay. I went ahead and ordered one. I got it yesterday, and I'm REALLY impressed. I ordered a Marco Valentino because I'm thinner and like a slimmer cut, but the Baroni is supposed to have a fuller cut, and I would imagine it's of similar quality. You're not getting a designer suit, but it's great for the price. If you search here or AAAC, you'll find a few others who like his stuff as well.

Here's a link to what he has in 42:

Also, if you're interested in his stuff contact Jeff (the Wizard) directly, mention Style Forum, and he'll give you a deal. My suit was shipped to my door for less than $300.
