The inconsistencies I've heard of are pretty much confined to their XF nibs. No matter what type of nib, I don't think it would hurt to have been looked at by Mr. Binder.

Interesting--I've never had a problem & have several XFs. HTe 14K nibs tend to be of higher quality than the gold-plated steel nibs the 200 is equipped with.

You could use a parker frontier. I used them before I switched to duofolds and they are pretty good. I use a fountain pen because it makes me write slower, which improves my hand writing. I also think they look much nicer.

I personally use a Parket Latitude CT Stainless Steel Fountain Pen.

At about $50-$60 it's a great value. I keep one in my jacket and one on my desk. My daughter was sneaking one out in her book bag and using it at school. I ended up buying her a few Pilot Varsity Disposable Fountain Pens. Medium Nib. It isn't high tech or beautiful but the pen actually flows and write very well considering the construction. You can get them in packs of 3 at staples for around $5.00. I leave a few around the house so everyone stays out of my office and away from my fountain pens.

My least favorite nib is a Pelikan 18K XF. It's too scratchy; however, I haven't had time to send it off to be modified.

Second the M200, great starter pen, but pel nibs are hit or miss in my experience. My XF m200 was smooth as silk out of the box while the tines on my m800 were in different timezones.

I'm still looking for something that writes better than my 9550 nibbed esterbrooks
